Pablo Picasso complete portfolio of 29 original lithographs after 29 paintings depicting imaginary portraits of cavaliers and kings. Picasso painted the 29 portraits on corrugated cardboard and heavy paper on 1969, in his studio in Mougin, French Riviera. From 1969 to 1972 Picasso worked with the Master lithographer Marcel Salinas to the realization of 29 lithographs from the portraits. The collaboration between Picasso and Salina ended to be very successful, proof after proof together they recreated the same brilliants colors, and rough background texture, of the original paintings.
After Picasso death in 1973 the portfolio was published, in a limited numbered edition of 250 copies for the French Edition and 250 copies for the American Edition. Each print is numbered and marked, F for the French edition and A for the American edition, in pencil. After the printing, the plates were destroyed.

Contree Robert Desnos, Illustrated by Pablo Picasso. Robert Godet, Paris 1944. Limited edition of 213 numbered copies of which this copy is one of 200 in Lafuma pur fil paper. With one etching in frontispiece, loose as issued, with inverted signature and date Picasso 23.D.43. A collection of 25 poems by Robert Desnos, illustrated with 23 reproductions of different part of the etching to unveiling to the reader, page after page, the different aspects of the frontispiece. The etching depicts a seated figure in both sides, front and back, with millions of fine lines supporting the figure, the drawing acquires volume and intricacy, and questioning our sense of perception of the whole piece. The poems of the collection are highly militant, alluding to the occupation and imminent liberation; Desnos was arrested by Gestapo on February 1944, before the publication of the book, and died 15 months later. Condition: Very Good. Wrappers detached from the block text, in good condition with minor defects. Etching with 3 small pin holes at the edges of the etching, one of the top and two on the bottom, bottom edge slightly worn. Text block loose, with some wear. Thread stitched paperback, with four engravings with burin by Picasso in full page, and a collection of poems by George Hugnet dedicated to Paul Eluard, the two poets joined the resistance in the Summer of 1942.
This copy come with a dedication in red pen of Hugnet to Marc Barbezat, who was the founder of the literary magazine: "l'Arbalète" on 1940. Barbezat was the first editor of Jean Genet, and through L’Arbalete he brought together prominent writers and artists of the post -war literary and artistic movements.

Conceived by Spies as a tribute for Daniel Kahnweiler in the occasion of his 80th birthday, the book assembles testimonials from notable authors and artists, retracing the lifelong career of this great art dealer. Cinq Sonnets de Petrarque.
La Fontaine de Vaucluse, MCMXLVII (Paris, 1947) With an original etching by Picasso (Bloch 370), translated in French by Luois Aragon. One of 100 copies on Arches wove of a total edition of 110. Each copy is inscribed with a different handwritten proverb by Louis Aragon, in lieu of his signature, and is numbered in ink by Aragon. This book includes five sonnets from the “Canzoniere” conceived and written by Francesco Petrarca after the death of his beloved Laura on 1348. Picasso’s etching for the book is a beautiful oval face surrounded by flowing hair, representing the idealized portrait of Laura, but it was the homage of Louis Aragon to Elsa Triolet, a Russian he met in 1928 after a suicide attempt, and who changed his life. In the dedicatory epigraph Aragon wrote:”They said Laura was somebody Else” the printing of the capital letter E make a possible equation between Laura and Else, or Laura and Elsa.
